Terms of Use

Last updated: July 2026

1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of thesort.app (the "website") and The Sort mobile application (the "app"), together the "Service", operated by The Minimal Sort Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 12027277, with its registered office at 5th Floor, 167–169 Great Portland Street, London W1W 5PF ("we", "us", "our").

By using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

Where mandatory local consumer protection law gives you rights that cannot be excluded by contract, nothing in these terms affects those rights.

2. This Service

The Sort is a digital wardrobe application. It allows you to photograph and catalogue the clothing you own, build and plan outfits, prepare packing lists, and understand how often you wear what you own.

The Sort is not a shop. We do not sell clothing, we do not operate a marketplace, and we do not earn commission on anything you buy elsewhere.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old, or the minimum age in your country of residence if that is higher, to use the Service. By using it you confirm that you meet this requirement and that the information you give us is accurate.

4. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Please tell us promptly at hello@thesort.app if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

You may close your account at any time by writing to hello@thesort.app.

5. License to use the App

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use The Sort for your own personal, non-commercial use, in accordance with these terms.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, reverse-engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it.

Where you download the app through Google Play, your use is also subject to Google Play's terms of service.

6. Your content

You own your content. The photographs you upload and the wardrobe information you enter remain yours. We do not claim ownership of them.

The permission you give us. To operate the Service, you grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt and display your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you — for example, storing your photographs, removing image backgrounds, displaying your wardrobe, and generating descriptions and styling suggestions.

This licence exists only so that the app can work. It does not permit us to publish your content, use it in marketing, sell it, or share it with anyone for their own purposes. It ends when you delete the content or close your account.

How your content is processed. Providing these features involves sending your photographs and item details to third-party service providers, including AI providers, who process them on our behalf. Our Privacy Policy explains this in detail.

Your responsibility. You confirm that you have the right to upload the content you upload, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights or break any law.

7. Artificial Intelligence & styling suggestions

The Sort uses artificial intelligence to generate item descriptions, styling hints and wardrobe suggestions.

These are suggestions, not advice. They are generated automatically; they may be inaccurate or unsuitable, and they are not professional styling, financial or purchasing advice. You should use your own judgement. We do not accept liability for decisions you make in reliance on AI-generated output.

You may edit or delete any AI-generated description at any time.

8. Wardrobe insights & Cost-per-wear

The Sort calculates figures such as cost per wear from the information you enter, including prices you provide.

These figures are indicative only. They depend entirely on the accuracy and completeness of what you enter; they are not valuations, and they are not financial advice. Do not rely on them for insurance, resale, tax or any other financial purpose.

9. Subscriptions & payments

Some features of The Sort may require a paid subscription.

If you purchase a subscription:

  • Payment is taken through Google Play. We do not process or store your payment card details.

  • Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel beforehand.

  • The price and billing period are shown to you before you purchase and are confirmed at the point of sale.

  • You can cancel at any time through your Google Play account settings. Cancellation stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.

  • Refunds are handled in accordance with Google Play's refund policy, together with any rights you have under applicable consumer law.

  • We may change subscription prices. We will give you reasonable notice before any change affects you, and you may cancel if you do not accept it.

Nothing in this section removes any statutory cancellation or refund right you have under the consumer law of your country.

10. Acceptable Use

You may use the Service for lawful personal purposes only. You must not:

  • use the Service in breach of any law or regulation;

  • infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy or other rights;

  • upload content that is unlawful, harmful, offensive, defamatory or that you have no right to upload;

  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or any related system;

  • use bots, scrapers or other automated tools to extract data from the Service without our written permission;

  • impersonate any person or misrepresent your connection to anyone; or

  • use the Service to build a competing product or service.

11. Suspension & termination

We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms, or if we are required to do so by law. Where it is reasonable and lawful to do so, we will tell you first and give you a chance to put things right.

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. On closure, we will delete your data as described in our Privacy Policy.

12. Availability & changes to the service

We aim to keep The Sort available and working, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. We may update, change or withdraw features from time to time to improve the product, respond to technical requirements, or comply with the law.

If we plan to withdraw a significant feature you rely on, we will give you reasonable notice where we can.

13. Our Intellectual Property

All content forming part of the Service — including the names The Sort and The Minimal Sort, our logo and monogram, the app's design, interface, text and imagery — belongs to The Minimal Sort Ltd and is protected by copyright, trade mark and other intellectual property laws.

Nothing in these terms grants you any right to use our intellectual property without our prior written consent.

14. Third-Party links and services

The Service may link to or rely on third-party websites and services. We are not responsible for their content, practices or terms, and a link does not mean we endorse them.

15. Disclaimer

Except as expressly set out in these terms, and to the extent permitted by law, the Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights as a consumer, including your right to services supplied with reasonable care and skill.

16. Our Liability to you

We do not exclude or limit our liability for: death or personal injury caused by our negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited — including your statutory rights under UK consumer protection law.

Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, business or data; and

  • our total liability to you arising from the Service is limited to the greater of £100 or the total amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

17. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against any claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these terms or your unlawful use of the Service. This does not apply to the extent that the claim arises from our own breach or negligence.

18. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

19. Governing laws & jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales — except that, if you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence where mandatory local law gives you that right, and you keep the protection of any mandatory consumer law of that country.

20. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted here with a revised date.

If we make a material change, we will give you reasonable notice — by email or in the app — before it takes effect. If you do not accept the change, you may close your account.

21. General

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remainder continues in force.

These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, form the entire agreement between you and The Minimal Sort Ltd in relation to the Service.
